Shipping Policy â Canada
1. Order Processing
All Canadian orders are processed within 48 business hours of payment confirmation, excluding weekends and Australian public holidays. You will receive a tracking number by email once your order has been dispatched from our warehouse in Epping, Victoria, Australia.
2. Carrier & Importer of Record
All Canadian alcohol shipments are sent via UPS in accordance with Canadian provincial liquor board requirements. Each province requires an Importer of Record (IOR) â the party legally responsible for the import â which varies by destination as set out below.
By placing an order, you confirm you are the purchaser and accept the IOR conditions applicable to your province.
3. Provincial Shipping Rules
Each Canadian province sets its own rules for importing alcohol. Please review the requirements for your province before ordering:
| Province | Shipping Method | Importer of Record | Key Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alberta | Air only (UPS Express / Express Saver) | The purchaser | Alcohol-only shipment. Max 45L per 90 days. Foreign alcohol levy applies. Orders over 6L require Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC) documentation. |
| British Columbia | Ground or air | BC Liquor Control Board (BCLCB) c/o consignee | Alcohol-only shipment. Max 45L per day. Foreign alcohol levy applies. BCLCB collects all charges and advises when UPS may deliver. |
| Quebec | Air only (UPS Express / Express Saver) | The purchaser | Alcohol-only shipment. The consignee must hold a permit for any shipment over 0.5% ABV. Max 45L per day. Foreign alcohol levy applies. Must clear Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) before delivery. |
| Manitoba | Air only (UPS Express / Express Saver) | The purchaser | Alcohol-only shipment. No volume limit. Foreign alcohol levy applies. IOR pays any outstanding fees during clearance before delivery. |
| Ontario | Ground or air | Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) c/o consignee | Alcohol-only shipment. Max 45L per day. Foreign alcohol levy applies. Proof of payment must be submitted to UPS Supply Chain SolutionsÂź Customs Brokerage. Duties and taxes paid by consignee before delivery. |
4. Estimated Delivery Timeframes
Once dispatched from Australia, estimated delivery is 6â12 business days, depending on province and provincial liquor board clearance:
| Shipping Stage | Estimated Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Order processing | 1â2 business days | After payment confirmed |
| Australian export clearance | 1â3 business days | May vary |
| International transit (UPS) | 3â6 business days | Air faster than ground |
| CBSA + provincial liquor board clearance | 2â5 business days | Varies by province |
| Last-mile delivery | 1â2 business days | After clearance & charges paid |
| Total estimated delivery | 6â12 business days | From dispatch date |
5. Volume Limits
Most provinces impose a maximum import volume of 45 litres per shipment (per day or per 90 days, depending on province â see Section 3). All WIAG orders fall well within these limits: our largest pack (24 Ă 187ml) is approximately 4.5 litres.
6. Customs Duties, Levies & Clearance Costs
Imported alcohol attracts customs duty and a provincial foreign alcohol levy. Depending on your province, these are either collected by WIAG at checkout or by the provincial liquor board / UPS before delivery.
6.1 What may apply
- Canadian customs duty on imported wine (assessed by CBSA)
- Provincial foreign alcohol levy (varies by province)
- UPS customs brokerage and clearance fees
- Provincial liquor board handling charges (BC and Ontario)
6.2 Canadian sales tax
WIAG ships from Australia on an export tax-free basis. WIAG does not collect or remit Canadian GST, HST, or provincial sales tax. Any taxes, duties, or levies assessed on import are the responsibility of the importer (you, or the provincial liquor board acting as IOR).
7. Delivery Requirements
Canadian law requires alcohol be received by a person of legal drinking age. UPS is instructed to:
- Request valid government-issued photo ID confirming the recipient is of legal drinking age in their province (18 in AB/MB/QC; 19 in BC/ON)
- Require a signature on delivery â parcels are never left unattended
- Refuse delivery if no eligible adult is present or ID cannot be verified
If delivery is unsuccessful, UPS holds the parcel at a local depot. Re-delivery and return freight costs are borne by the customer.
8. Shipping Costs
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your province and order weight, and displayed in CAD. Air-only provinces (Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba) may incur higher freight than ground-eligible provinces (British Columbia, Ontario).
